Dear diary,
I’m sorry that it’s been so long since I’ve been here, but I’ve been very busy chasing these
dreams of mine. Over the past year, I’ve been attending just about every writers conference possible. I’ve been to so many, met so many wonderful and interesting people, and learned a lot along the way.
My first novel, Mimi’s Arrow, has now been completely revised twice with the help of a
developmental editor, which was absolutely one of the best things I’ve ever spent money on. I learned so much through that process—not just about that book, but about writing and revision in general.
Now I’m in the middle of revisions on my second book. I’m not working with an editor on this
one, but because of everything I learned while revising Mimi’s Arrow, I have a much better idea of what this manuscript is missing and where it needs work. So, for a first round of revisions, I actually feel pretty good about how it’s going. Somewhere in the middle of all of this, I’ve also been learning a lot about branding, which is part of the reason this website looks completely different now. Hopefully you like the new look.
I’ve also simplified my social media quite a bit because I’m trying to make all of this
sustainable for myself. My current plan is to post on TikTok daily and come back here to the
blog a few times a week. Hopefully I have enough time and energy to keep up with that without taking too much attention away from the thing I’m actually trying to do: write books.
Thankfully, my life is pretty chill. The business I run as a nanny is rewarding and enjoyable
for the most part, and now that my youngest is actually in preschool, I have two days a week
with some extra writing time. I want to be really intentional about using that time for revisions.
I’ve given myself a goal of finishing revisions on book two by the end of October.
Then, starting November 1, I want to begin writing my third novel. What exactly that third novel will be is still a little undecided.
It might be Book Three, following Aeronation. Or it might be a prequel called Becca. And
honestly, Becca could end up changing the structure of the whole series. I’ve been thinking that maybe Arrow’s story becomes a duology—Becca and Mimi’s Arrow—followed by two books centered around Brooklyn.
I’m not completely sure yet where these novels are going to take me. But I think that’s okay.
I’m writing. I’m revising. I’m learning. I’m meeting people. I’m putting myself out there. And
after a very long absence from this little diary of mine, I think coming back here is another step in the right direction.
